Racing After Midnight (Released March/1988): This album was recorded a One on One Studio’s in Los Angeles with the one and only Ted Templeman producing.  The songs had a slightly harder edge with much stronger emphasis on Derry’s guitar work.  Ray Coburn had left the band after The Big Prize, and was replaced by Rob Preuss, who’s keyboard work gave a different flavor to the songs, but were a great complement to the heavier guitars on the album.

About half way through the recording of the tracks, Johnnie Dee was hit by a car at the Los Angeles airport breaking his leg in several places, and had to finish his lead vocals standing on crutches in the studio.

Michael McDonald of the Doobie Bros. co-wrote the song “Long Way Back”, and sang back up vocals on the track.  The late Bobby LaKind, also of the Doobie Bros., played percussion on the track “Fast Company”.
